POLICE in Macheke, Mashonaland East Province, have arrested Dzingirai Chinyamunjiko (39) in connection with the murder of his wife, whose remains were recently found burnt in their bedroom, which had allegedly caught fire during the night.

Reports are that on the night of July 21, 2025, Chinyamunjiko allegedly gave his bedroom keys to one of their children and instructed him to lock their bedroom door while he retired to bed with his wife.

Allegations are that around 1am, the children woke up after hearing noise from their parents’ bedroom.

They realised that the bedroom was on fire and rushed to inform their uncle, who rushed to the scene and managed to put out the fire.

It is reported that after the fire was extinguished, a police report was made and the police attended the scene, where they discovered the remains of Chinyamunjiko’s wife, Florence Tururu (29).

However, it is said Chinyamunjiko was nowhere to be seen.

Police spokesperson for Mashonaland East Province, Inspector Simon Chazovachiyi, confirmed the developments.

“It is reported that at around 1 am, one of the kids was awakened by a sound coming from the bedroom of their parents,” he said.

“She woke up her siblings and went to check outside and they discovered that their parents’ bedroom was on fire.

“The kids rushed to inform their uncle, who swiftly reacted and put off the fire using water. A report was made at ZRP Macheke, who attended the scene.

“The police discovered the body of the suspect’s wife, Florence Tururu, burnt in the bedroom. Initially, the suspect was not located. He was later spotted on July 24, 2025, at around 5 pm at a neighboring farm. Information was relayed to ZRP Macheke, leading to his arrest. He is in custody assisting police with investigations.”

Insp Chazovachiyi appealed to the public to always solve their misunderstandings peacefully.
