A Harare man turned his wife into a punching bag from the day she told him that she had tested HIV positive, the Harare Civil Court heard yesterday.
Brenda Wilson claimed James Kamufose infected her with HIV and whenever she tried to discuss the issue with him he became violent.
Wilson was seeking a protection order against Kamufose whom she said was breaching her peace.
“He infected me with HIV and since the day I told him that I went for tests and tested HIV-positive, he has been physically abusing me everyday,” she said.
Wilson told magistrate Mr Tafadzwa Muvhami to order Kamufose to reveal his salary to her, saying he was refusing to tell her how much he was earning.
“I am sick and tired of being physically abused by this man because each time he attacks me he chases me out of the house,” said Wilson.
Kamufose refuted the allegations.
“We are always fighting with my wife ever since we got married five years ago,” he said.
“She has been using contraceptives, but she knows fully well that I need a child.”
Kamufose said he was under a lot of pressure from his parents whom he said wanted grandchildren.
Mr Muvhami granted the protection order in Wilson’s favour which barred Kamufose from physically or verbally abusing her and to stop chasing her out of their matrimonial house.
He ordered the couple to keep peace towards each other at all times.
