Huge demand for African coffee in China

Kigali. – The growing demand for African coffee in China is a huge market potential for African coffee-makers, an African coffee beverage association chairman, Isak Lukenge, said last Friday.

China’s interest in coffee in Africa is a great opportunity for African countries to increase the volume of coffee trade in China.

The big Chinese coffee market will help African countries diversify coffee sales and stimulate production and generate more revenue, he said.

China, with its large population, offers a base for demand for products and business opportunities for exports to Africa, the president said.

China not only offers investment, infrastructure and financial support to African countries, but now also offers its own market, Lukeenge said.

He encouraged African coffee-makers to join joint ventures with Chinese partners to penetrate the market, thus expanding coffee exports to China.

The conference, held from February 13 to 15, gathers more than 600 delegates, including 65 exhibitors from across Africa and beyond, to discuss ways to improve the quality and competitiveness of African coffee.

Its members are Cameroon, Burundi, Ethiopia, Democratic Republic of Congo, Uganda, Kenya, Malawi, South Africa, Tanzania, Zambia, Zimbabwe and Rwanda. –  Xinhua.
