Huge injury blow for Gunners

LONDON. — Arsenal have been hit with a huge injury blow with news Danny Welbeck has undergone surgery on his left knee and will be out for “months”.

The Gunners had hoped to have the striker back within the next month after a long injury lay-off that started last April.

But after stepping up his comeback in recent weeks, the England man has been forced to go under the knife to correct the problem.

“The striker has been working throughout the summer to recover from the injury sustained at the end of April,” Arsenal said yesterday afternoon.

“It had been hoped he would avoid surgery, but after increasing his training workload, the injury to his cartilage did not respond as well as hoped and the decision was taken last week for him to undergo surgery by a leading specialist in the field.

“Danny is now expected to be out for a period of months and everyone at Arsenal wishes him well.”

The news comes days after Arsenal drew a blank in the transfer market.

The Gunners were the only side in the top five leagues in Europe not to sign an outfielder, despite late interest in bringing in Edinson Cavani from Paris Saint-Germain. — The Mirror.-
