Hugh Beadle win SOS inaugural soccer tourney

The tournament attracted seven schools and was aimed at introducing the young boys to competitive football at a young age.

Hugh Beadle won the trophy after beating Milton Junior 3-1 on penalties after a goalless draw in regulation time. The hosts, SOS, fielded two teams but did not reach the final despite their A Team winning two games against Khumalo (2-0) and Hillside (1-0) and settling for a one all draw with Milton, who however beat the other two teams by more goals to advance to the final.

Hugh Beadle dominated the other pool that had Tennyson and Robert Tredgold and SOS B.

The sports director of SOS, Roseday Nyathi, said the toddlers’ tournament will include girls next year.

“This is the first tournament that we hosted as SOS and we invited seven schools and next year we will also have the little girls playing football as well. “The idea is to introduce the kids to competitive football at a young age and they also get the chance to meet and socialise with other children from other schools, which is good. Even those who did not win anything are still going home happy just because they took part in the tournament,” said Nyathi.

He added that they were appealing for sponsors to support the tournament, which is meant to be an annual toddlers’ event.
