“My subject matter has changed throughout the years but I love to capture the emotional aspects of moments in life and have a huge appreciation for the human form”.art fanatics were in for a treat last Friday, as Nicole Sanderson opened her art studio in Avondale to the public for an exhibition, showcasing world class paintings which have toured several countries. The exhibition was a full house, with people who appreciate art from different parts of the country, saluting the artist for the good pieces. Her primary choice of medium is oil paint on canvas. Nicole’s choice of subject has varied vastly over the past few years from portraiture, landscapes, flocks of birds and more recently the human emotion.

Nicole’s latest art works have been inspired by intense personal experience and human emotion and is focusing less on her technical ability.

She recently toured China for seven weeks, on a trip which was sponsored by the Chinese Ministry of Culture along with four other artists chosen from various countries in Africa.

“I learnt a lot on my recent tour, it was an incredible trip where we were exposed to amazing culture and being exposed to some of the most incredible landscapes the world has to offer and we had a very successful exhibition,” said Nicole.

“Prior to travelling to China I have exhibited multiple times within Zimbabwe, in Zambia, the US and France.

“My subject matter has changed throughout the years but I love to capture the emotional aspects of moments in life and have a huge appreciation for the human form. Making a living off painting is always a challenge, but I believe that when you work from within, and paint true to your soul, the universe works in mysterious ways to support you.

“I sell my original works and also reproduce the canvas pieces at much more affordable prices.

I look forward to a progressive future in the world of art and I hope to inspire other people to follow their own passions,” said Nicole.

She grew up at a tobacco farm in the country where she nurtured her talent and developed her artistic skills from a very young age, later studying for a degree in Fine Art at the Savannah College of Art and Design in Savannah, Georgia, US in 2006.

She has travelled extensively and also spent a great deal of time painting in the South of France, New York, Zambia and more recently in Sichuan, China.
