Miss Zimbabwe World 2014 Tendai Hunda, is set to represent the country at the Miss Intercontinental World Pageant scheduled to take place next month in Magdeburg, Germany. The prestigious pageant, which is in its 44th year, will see over 70 girls from all over the world taking part. Models will be in camp on December 4 while the pageant is on December 19.

In an interview, Hunda said preparations were at an advanced stage and she is getting ready for the contest.

“I am leaving for camp on December 4. Washington Ali and Hildah Mulenga — the directors of Miss Intercontinental are supporting me as they facilitated my participation. I am happy to be working with Sandra Chawabvunza of Prestige Modelling, who is mentoring, training and grooming me till the day I leave for Germany. I am also attending gym lessons,” she said.

Hunda said she will use some of the lessons she learnt at the Miss World contest. “I am optimistic and determined that I will bring the crown home. Since it is my second time at a big world pageant, I believe this time I am more prepared. It is an opportunity for me to use the experience I got at Miss World to bring the most coveted crown home.

“There are numerous lessons to draw from Miss World and this includes arriving in camp on time, participating in all events enthusiastically, getting on well with chaperones and fellow contestants and being forever camera conscious for judging takes place every second,” she said.

She said Espol Advertisements are working tirelessly to ensure that most of the basic requirements for the event are met. Hunda said her role model was Nigerian-based Agabani Darego and she is working hard to emulate her. “She was the first black woman from Africa to win Miss World in 2001 and undoubtedly I would love to be another black African woman to win a big title,” she said.

However, last year during her participation at Miss World, Hunda was blasted for her make-up which was too “messy”, according to some critics, who said it contributed to her loss because she was not careful. Hunda later said some Zimbabweans were too harsh on her over that issue as she felt stunning with the criticised make-up on stage.

“Miss World provided the make-up artists for all contestants. Make-up done on me was beyond my control,” she said. Hunda failed to make it in top 25 at the Miss World and fans are waiting to see if she learnt something or history will repeat itself.
