HUNDREDS of people have begun to arrive for the SADC Anti-Sanctions Day event being held on Friday at the Large City Hall auditorium in Bulawayo.

Among those in attendance are traditional leaders, representatives from tertiary institutions, health professionals, and ordinary citizens from across the spectrum.

President Mnangagwa, who is also the SADC Chairman, is expected to deliver his keynote address this morning under the theme “Embracing Innovation towards Vision 2030: The Relentless Fight against Illegal Sanctions,” before appending his signature to the electronic petition.

Ordinary Zimbabweans are signing the SADC Anti-Sanctions petition.

The signing of the petition by the Head of State in Bulawayo today is a key highlight of SADC Anti-Sanctions Day, which has been organised since 2019 in solidarity with the region in defiance of the crippling impacts of sanctions on development and the lives of ordinary people.

On Tuesday, Politburo members signed the petition against sanctions, and today’s signed petition will be presented to the United States Embassy in Harare as a strong expression of displeasure from Zimbabweans.

Today’s event is taking place at the Large City Hall in Bulawayo, a city that has suffered massive de-industrialisation over the past two decades as a result of illegal sanctions.

SADC member states have consistently stood in solidarity with Zimbabwe.
