Hungwe blasts Zaka RDC

Masvingo Provincial Affairs Minister Senator Josaya Hungwe has rapped Zaka Rural District Council for failing to effect meaningful developmental projects in the district and labelled the local authority as the worst performer in the province.

Senator Hungwe said there was urgent need to come up with a raft of measures to improve service delivery in one of Masvingo province’s least developed rural district.

Addressing a stakeholders meeting attended by Zaka RDC senior officials and councillors among others at Jerera Growth Point last week, Senator Hungwe cited the battered state of roads as one indicator of the appalling state of affairs in the district.

“Zaka RDC is known for window dressing, this business of fixing roads only when high- profile people are visiting should end. We want projects that bring lasting solutions to the generality of the people in this district,” he said.

Senator Hungwe singled out Zaka RDC chief executive Mr David Majaura and warned him against trying to cover up his shortcomings through window dressing to dupe visiting high-profile delegates from reading the actual situation on the ground.

“Roads should be rehabilitated all the time for the benefit of our people and besides internal revenue generated by council, there are also additional roads maintenance funds that come from Zinara. All this money should be invested to keep roads in good shape.”

“Our rural roads need to be fixed all the time and not only when a minister or the President is coming.

“We should be seen to deliver on services to our people. When people voted for us in the last election we made certain promises and those promises should guide us on what needs to be done.

“We can’t be seen to be running around only when elections are around the corner,” said Senator Hungwe.

The Masvingo Provincial Affairs Minister also blasted council employees and councillors who engage in corrupt activities saying Government would not hesitate to wield the axe on them.

This came in the wake of reports that some Zaka RDC councillors and village heads around Jerera Growth Point had been fingered in illegal land sales.

“Government will not continue to fold its arms while councillors and senior council officials engage in corruption.

“We will do everything in our power to deal with the cancer of corruption. President Mnangagwa has already made a clarion call for all forms of corruption to stop as the long arm of the law will catch up with the culprits,” said Senator Hungwe.
