FC Hunters chief executive Terrence Malunga says his side will not underestimate Hwange when the two teams clash in the Zifa Munhumutapa Challenge Cup round of 16.
The Division One outfit booked their place in the last 16 after eliminating giants Dynamos in the previous round.
Malunga described Hwange as an experienced club carrying considerable momentum from their victory over DeMbare.
“All the 16 teams remaining in the competition are very competitive. There are no pushovers,” Malunga said.
“Hwange are here because they are a good team. They eliminated Dynamos, a very experienced side, and that victory has given them momentum.
“It is a decent draw for us, but we know we are facing an experienced team even though they are not currently in the Premier League.”
Despite Hunters’ top-flight status, Malunga insisted the pressure would be on their opponents.
“Hwange are a traditional football club that has been around for a long time. We consider ourselves the underdogs going into the match,” he said.
“We are a new club with a young and hungry squad. Our objective is to challenge ourselves and see how far we can go in the competition.”
Malunga said the opportunity to compete in one of the country’s major knockout tournaments should provide enough motivation for his players.
“Every player wants to compete in the biggest tournaments in the country. The boys are motivated and eager to push themselves further,” he said.
“As a club, we continue to professionalise our operations and ensure the players are comfortable and their welfare is properly managed.”
But in the meantime, the club will be focusing on their league encounter against Hardrock at Rufaro over the weekend.
