HWANGE Colliery Company Limited (HCCL) has announced the appointment of Jemister Chininga as new board chairman to replace Farai Mutamangira who stepped down last week.
Mutamangira resigned as chairman and director of the company on October 9, 2015, after serving in the post since August 2011, to pursue other interests.
“Following the stepping down of Mutamangira, the board of directors of Hwange Colliery Company Limited is pleased to announce the appointment of Jemister Chininga as the new board chairman effective October15, 2015,” the company said in a statement yesterday.
Chininga has been a non-executive director of the company since August 2011.
He is an accomplished business executive and strategist with vast technical knowledge and management experience spanning across both public and private sectors of the economy.
In his career, Chininga has held the position of deputy secretary for finance and administration in the Ministry of Industry and International Trade while still in the public service and was also chairman of the Zimbabwe Government Tender Board.
He is the former managing director of Ramotswa Steel and Iron Company, a subsidiary of Zisco, based in Botswana.
Chininga has also been group managing director of Zisco subsidiaries in Botswana, Namibia and Zambia.
He acted as managing director of Hwange Colliery for the period August 2013 to May 31, 2014.
Chininga has also held directorships in Olivine Holdings, Centre for Innovation and Enterprise Development, Zimbabwe Iron and Steel Commission, Standards Association of Zimbabwe, Minerals Marketing Corporation of Zimbabwe, Zimbabwe Defence Industries and Sandawana Mines, a subsidiary of ZMDC.
He is the current board member of Zimchem Refineries.
Chininga holds a Bachelor of Administration Degree from the United States International University, San Diego, California among other qualifications.
