Hwange, Arenel to restart D1 season

THE clash between Zifa Southern Region Division One log leaders Hwange and third-placed Arenel will headline resumption of league action following a mid-season break.

Arenel are nine points behind Hwange, who sit on 45 points. Hwange edged Arenel 1-0 in the reverse fixture before the break in what had been dubbed as the title decider.

Hwange’s goal was scored in the 42nd minute via the penalty spot by captain Kelly Shiyandindi.Arenel were unhappy with the awarding of the penalty and their technical team is reported to have confronted referee Donacious Munenge at full-time in protest. Arenel will be hoping to collect maximum points to remain in the title race against their biggest rivals.

Meanwhile, Quality Foods striker Stanson Khanye is the leading goal scorer in the league at the halfway stage.

 

Khanye has found the target 11 times followed by Shiyandindi and Ryan Ncube of Mosi Rovers, who are tied on eight goals, with Tinotenda Chitete of Makhandeni Pirates on seven.

Shepherd Gadzikwa (Hwange), Adonice Nyoni (Arenel), Aluma Milanzi (Binga Pirates), Fortune Nkomazana (ZPC Hwange), Tendai Zaza (Mountain Climbers) and Calvin Chigonera (Talen Vision) have each scored six goals.
