Hwange beat Mighty Bulls

Hwange finished the season on a winning note but it was clear at the end of the game that they had no energy left to celebrate after shedding gallons of sweat to overcome already relegated but highly determined Motor Action at the Colliery yesterday.

The youthful Mighty Bulls outfit matched the coalminers in all departments the entire match only to succumb to an 80th minute brilliant goal by Isaac Masame who pounced home from close range after substitute Evans Rusike’s goal bound effort was blocked by a Motor Action defender to leave the restless Hwange fans a relieved lot.

Masame’s effort proved to be the only goal in a match Hwange needed nothing short of victory as they were also threatened by relegation going into the last game of the pulsating season.

The coalminers’ head coach Nation Dube was the first to admit that it needed something special from a player like Masame to de-horn the rampaging Mighty Bulls.

“I am very happy with the result but as you saw for yourself the match was very tough and I even told the boys before the game that we would not get the points on a sliver platter.

“At the end of the day after a very difficult encounter we got what we wanted because we did not want to rely on results from other matches to guarantee our survival but to do the job ourselves,” said Dube. His opposite number Prince Matore said his boys played a tactical match but could not convert their chances. “We played a good game where tactically we were superior only that the boys could not convert their chances at the end of the day.” he said.

Hwange started the game in a lively manner as Masame missed a golden opportunity barely a minute into the duel after he latched on to a Gilbert Zulu chested ball only for him to sky his effort from a few metres out.

Then came the young Mighty Bulls goalkeeper Bernard Donovan’s show of brilliance as he denied Hwange on numerous occasions as the hosts controlled proceedings in the first quarter of the game.
