HWANGE FC have written to the Premier Soccer League notifying them about the return of their two coaches Bongani Mafu and Try Ncube from their first Caf A Module A classes recently held in Tanzania with hope that the duo will be granted the greenlight to start sitting on the club’s technical bench.
Mafu and Ncube came back home last week on Wednesday and immediately joined their club’s preparations for their game against defending champions FC Platinum played at Colliery Stadium last Sunday.
An impeccable source within the Chipangano corridors told this publication that the club has since advised PSL that the duo is back and they are asking that the pair be allowed to sit on the Hwange bench.
“The club has since written to PSL expressing their wish to have Mafu and Ncube on the bench alongside Nation Dube. Their Caf A classes will still continue and conclude next year. They will go for the Caf A Module B lessons sometime in October and go for Module C and D classes next year,” said the source.
Technically the coaches are not yet done with their Caf A course as they still have three modules to go.
Hwange administrator Khumbulani Mbano declined to comment citing that he needed to first get clearance from his superiors that included Hwange Colliery Company public relations executive Beauty Mutombe.
Spirited efforts to get comment from Mutombe, who asked for emailed questions, drew a blank as she was yet to respond by the time of going to print, citing a busy work schedule that had seen her engage in a series of online meetings.
During their absence, Mafu and Ncube missed two Chipangano games when they played host to ZPC Kariba and an away tie against army side Black Rhinos.
The pair has not been sitting on their team’s technical bench during games because they do not have the Caf A badges.
Most countries are insisting on hiring Premiership coaches with Caf A badges.
By going to Tanzania, Mafu and Ncube joined Triangle United coach Thulani ‘Thuts” Sibanda who is doing the same course but got a waiver to be on his club’s technical bench.
Sibanda enrolled for the CAF A course late last year and he is set to conclude his upgrade this year.
A number of assistant coaches and support staff have been sent to the terraces after failing to get accredited as they don’t have requisite qualifications. The list includes Chicken Inn’s Joey Antipas and goalkeepers coach Energy Murambadoro, Highlanders’ Joel Luphahla, Antonio Torres and Madinda Ndlovu among others.
Ndlovu attended a refresher course recently.
Zifa wants everyone to adhere to Fifa/Caf Club Licensing requirements.
The association implemented standardisation for local football coaching that require all top-flight coaches to possess a Caf A licence at the beginning of the 2017 season.
