Club spokesperson, Burzil Dube said there were no officials to welcome his side but when they eventually showed up they apologised for the inconvenience they had caused.
Hwange Football Club meets Zanzibar side Jamhuri in a Confederations Cup match this afternoon
Dube said officials told them that the communication they received from the Zanzibar Football Association was that Hwange would arrive at 3.25pm and not 3.25am.
The officials, in a move aimed at patching up for the mix up, showed Hwange Football Club officials the airmail from their association.
“The incident has however not dampened the spirit of the boys as the morale is very high ahead of tomorrow’s match at Gombani Stadium in Pemba,” said Dube.
Hwange adequately prepared for the campaign and this included a tour of South Africa where they played practice matches against Absa champions Orlando Pirates and Black Leopards.
They boosted their confidence levels when they dispatched Dynamos 2-1 in the semi-final of the pre-season Bob 88 Super Cup.
Their worry is the fitness levels of the players since they are coming from an off-season break.
