A 63-YEAR-OLD man from Hwange has been sentenced to 15 years in prison after being convicted of raping a 12-year-old

Grade 6 pupil.

The Hwange Magistrates’ Court handed down the jail term for the offense, which occurred in late July.

According to the NPA, the incident took place on July 25 2025, at around 7 pm, in an area under Chief Nekatambe.

The offender entered the bedroom of the victim and offered her money to have sex with him. He then raped the 12-year-old girl.

The man was disturbed after he heard the victim’s brother whistling outside. The brother caught them red-handed.

The victim was questioned and subsequently revealed the entire incident to her mother. A report was made to the police, which

led to the arrest of the 63-year-old man.

The NPAZ said the sexual abuse of minors remains an issue of grave concern within the country. It called upon members of the

community to report such cases promptly.

“Members of the community need to report such cases to get rid of pedophiles in our communities,” said the NPA.

It reaffirmed its commitment under the slogan “Combating Crime and Corruption”.
