Hwange man found hanging

A MAN was recently found hanging from a tree in Manzasiya area, Hwange in a suspected suicide case and police are appealing for information from members of the public who might know him to claim the body from St Patrick’s Hospital Mortuary.
Matabeleland North Police spokesperson Inspector Siphiwe Makonese said a bag with a passport bearing details of Mbonisi Ndlovu, 37, was recovered about five metres away from the tree where the body was found and it is suspected it could have been his.

“A man identified as Gilbert Phiri, 43, from Khalima 3, Chief Pashu area found a human body hanging with a piece of cloth from a tree and reported the matter to Kamativi Police. The body was in an advanced stage of decomposition and it was taken to St Patrick’s Hospital Mortuary for postmortem,” said Insp Makonese.

She said no foul play was suspected and called for anyone with information about a missing person to approach the police.
In a separate incident, a 96-year-old woman allegedly committed suicide by throwing herself into Gwayi River in Sipepa area.

It has not been established why Sindebe Moyo, of Siphongweni Line decided to take her own life and police said no foul was suspected.
Insp Makonese said Moyo retired to bed at night on Monday as she slept in a kitchen hut while her grandson Jawuet Ndlovu slept in a bedroom hut.

In the morning, said the police spokesperson, Ndlovu went to the kitchen hut to check on his granny but found that she was not in and thought she had gone to look for cattle.

Moyo’s body was found floating on Gwayi River by 16-year-old Gift Mhlanga who rushed to inform villagers who then made a report to the police and the body was retrieved from the water.

Tsholotsho resident magistrate Carrington Karidzangundi waived postmortem.
