A Hwange Regional Court has jailed a 39-year-old man, who raped his neighbour’s four-year-old daughter, to 17 years in prison.

According to the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ), the incident occurred on September 16 2024, when the girl’s mother asked the convict to go to the shops to buy bread and relish.

The offender then requested to go with the girl and the mother agreed but instead of going straight to the shops he took her into the bush where he raped her.

According to the investigations made by police in Hwange, after abusing the girl, the accused took the complainant back to her mother. The girl the told her mother what had happened.

The ZRP Hwange further carried out investigations leading to the arrest of the accused person.

Meanwhile, the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe is appealing to all parents and guardians to exercise extreme caution when entrusting the custody and care of their children to other people.

This call comes as the NPAZ continues to prosecute a significant number of cases where children have been sexually abused by individuals known to them or with whom they are familiar with.
