A total of US$17 000 was raised during the Kamandama Memorial Golf Tournament last year.
Hwange Colliery Company Limited managing director, Fred Moyo, and Care Insurance Brokers’, Innocent Nousenga, won the tournament last year.
The money raised is for projects to be implemented by Kamandama widows.
Part of the proceeds will be used to establish a scholarship fund for academically gifted but underprivileged children.
The event is held annually to commemorate the 1976 Kamandama Mine disaster, which claimed 467 lives.
Meanwhile, Emerson Chitakatira was disqualified in the second round of the Marange Resources Pro-Am for cheating.
Instead of using the golf club to hit the ball, Chitakatira, a former Zimbabwe Professional Golf Association (ZPGA) president, elected to use his hand to scoop the ball, resulting in the disqualification.
According to an official statement compiled by Tendayi Gwatiringa, a Zambezi Tour official, Chitakatira was found guilty of flouting golf rules and was as result, disqualified.
But despite this controversy, Michael Mahachi, the tournament director, was a happy man at the end of tournament.
