Zesa Holdings has announced that Unit 3 at Hwange Power Station will be taken offline for 44 days to undergo statutory maintenance, a move aimed at improving reliability and efficiency.
In a statement, Zesa said the outage began on 10 September and will run until 24 October 2025.
The company assured customers that four other units at Hwange will remain operational during the maintenance period to sustain electricity generation.

“This exercise is essential to enhance the unit’s availability and reliability,” reads the statement.
“We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and greatly appreciate our stakeholders’ understanding and continued support.”
Hwange Power Station, Zimbabwe’s largest thermal power plant, is a key contributor to the national grid, and its maintenance cycles are critical to ensuring stability in electricity supply.
Zesa reaffirmed its commitment to improving supply reliability, adding that ongoing refurbishment and maintenance works at Hwange are part of long-term efforts to secure a sustainable energy future for the country.
