Hwange youths embrace devolution

HWANGE youths have formed a development trust to spearhead development projects as the Government implements devolution of power.

The name of the trust is Lyeja, a Nambya term meaning wake-up and work.

It was started by a few youths and now has 162 members.

Some of the members are based in South Africa where their duty is to mobilise resources.

“We have come up with a trust with the idea of developing our community into a self-sustaining society with full community participation. The trust seeks to take responsibility for Hwange’s development through inclusivity and engagement with various stakeholders,” said Mr Casper Kombana Ndlovu, the trust spokesperson.

He said they will set up structures resembling all sectors of the economy and each will be tasked with activities in their respective areas.

“The trust was founded by dedicated youths namely Shadreck Kativu, Advantage Nyoni, Tinashe Chuchu and Antony Nkomo. We’re specifically a Nambya community and want to embrace investment in a sustainable and mutually beneficial manner.

“We’re putting structure on education, health, development, sports and other sectors as we intend to complement Government efforts in social development and embrace devolution and citizens participation in an organised manner,” said Mr Ndlovu.

He said the idea of setting up the trust was to dispel the marginalisation rhetoric where communities usually fail to actively participate in developmental projects but complain about being left out of development.

“We want to be pro-active in developmental issues supporting Government in its 2030 vision and devolution. Membership is open to anyone from Hwange district who wants to see development taking place,” added Mr Ndlovu. — @ncubeleon
