OPPOSITION legislator Charlton Hwende has commended President Mnangagwa and the Second Republic for responding to concerns over the state of a road in Mhondoro, acknowledging Government’s infrastructure development efforts after Transport and Infrastructure Development Minister Felix Mhona acted on concerns raised by legislators.
Mr Hwende, who visited Mhondoro over the weekend, praised Minister Mhona for listening to MPs and ensuring work was undertaken on the road.
He said the intervention demonstrated that concerns raised by legislators could translate into tangible Government action.
The commendation is significant as it came from an opposition MP who had previously criticised the condition of the road but has now publicly acknowledged Government’s response, despite the road still being gravel.
In a social media post, Mr Hwende said he had travelled to Mubaira to buy building materials when his driver pointed out that work was being carried out on the road, which he and fellow Mhondoro legislators, including Mutsa Murombedzi and current MP Chamu Chiwanza, had repeatedly raised in Parliament and on social media.
“As a responsible opposition MP, I must, in the same manner that I made noise about the state of the road, also come here today and appreciate the work done by the Government through the Minister of Transport, Hon Mhona, for listening to your fellow MPs and delivering,” Mr Hwende said.
He added: “Even though it is still gravel, we must still appreciate it and say, ‘Thank you.’”
Hwende’s comments place the road works within the broader debate on the Second Republic’s infrastructure development programme, while also highlighting how constituency service delivery can transcend partisan political differences.
