FORMER CCC Chiredzi Town Council chairperson, Gibson Hwende, has defected to Zanu PF.

He dumped the troubled opposition outfit last weekend and was presented to the revolutionary party supporters at a rally at Chitsanga Hall in Chiredzi.

Zanu PF director responsible for returnees, Cde Blessing Chebundo, confirmed the development yesterday.

“Yes I can confirm that Cde Hwende is now with us. He has joined Zanu PF together with six other members,” he said.

Cde Chebundo said a number of former opposition party members are defecting to Zanu PF after realising that there is nothing to gain from perennially opposing the Government.

“It is better to move with those who are after development than remaining in opposition politics for the sake of opposing,” he said.

Cde Hwende said his decision to join Zanu PF was motivated by President Mnangagwa’s work ethic.

“President Mnangagwa is a listening President and he inspired me to join the party. I have witnessed a lot of developments done by him in a short period of time and it is madness to keep on opposing good developments,” he said.
