Santa Claus is an important part of the festive season. It is not that we believe that he possesses some sort of magical powers and come from the North Pole. We are sorry to burst the bubbles of those who believe so.
The point is there is no denying what they represent. They make the festive season merry and magical.
However, the new breed of grumpy Santas seems to be on the loose these days if complaints are anything to go by.
Instead of livening up the mood, these mean Santas are killing the Christmas spirit, not only for the children but that of the adults who are young at heart.
So bad are some of these that at times one wonders if Tyler Perry’s Madea is in that Santa costume to make everyone who passes by miserable.
One thing for sure, we get that the person in the costume is a human being probably called Tafadzwa or Baba Mitchelle but once in the costume they become Santa Claus and at least play the role.
Although it is understandable that one can get exhausted from screaming “Ho Ho Ho!” all day, management also has a role to play by ensuring Santas switch or take breaks at certain intervals. It is not the performance but the presentation too that needs work on our local Father Christmas.
First of all, how is a person supposed to believe this is Santa when the physical experience spells “Fake Santa”?
We obviously missed the memo that Santa had a bad make-over but the last time we checked, he is supposed to be cheerful, big bellied and in a bright red and white costume.
Local shops should be commended for their efforts of bringing in Santas during the festive holidays, but how about going all the way and doing it right? By this we are talking about getting proper costumes that are not in tatters.
Presents
Over the years, Santas have been downgraded to giving pictures and small sweets on a good day.
We are fully aware that an economic depression was experienced in the past decade but if the truth be told there are shops filled with cheap toys.
Surely, they are capable of putting a smile on the face of any child, isn’t that the whole purpose of having a Santa in the first place?
Yes, things are hard but how about having promotional give-aways at certain intervals. Grown-ups get to win cars, cash prizes and hampers all the time. Could it be too much to ask if Santas could give away toys once in a while? Where is the love?
You are supposed to be the super hero of Christmas, but I don’t believe you Santa!
