adminLONDON. — Arsene Wenger has revealed he began to doubt himself after Arsenal went so long without a trophy. But following the FA Cup final victory over Hull, the Frenchman confirmed on Saturday that he will sign a new contract before the World Cup. The FA Cup success on Saturday ended a nine-year drought for the Gunners.
“I question myself honestly, all the time,” said Wenger.
“We live in a world where people are always being told what they haven’t done, never what you have done.” The 64-year-old will put pen to paper on a new three-year deal worth around £8m a year. The Frenchman, whose current deal runs out in the summer, will wrap up the new agreement before heading to the World Cup as a pundit for French television.
“I will go to Brazil on June 10,” added Wenger. “It will be done before then.”
A proud Wenger watched his Arsenal side win the FA Cup 3-2 in extra-time against Hull City at Wembley to end a trophy drought of nine years since they last annexed the Football Association’s domestic cup competition.
The Gunners became the first team to overturn a two-goal deficit and lift the FA Cup since Everton beat Sheffield Wednesday in 1966.
Wenger also confirmed he plans to bring in three players this summer.
He looks certain to lose first-choice right-back Bacary Sagna to Manchester City on a free, with a deal possibly being concluded this week.
The France international wants his future concluded before the World Cup.
And that means Arsenal’s first summer signing is set to be Serge Aurier from Toulouse, the replacement for Sagna, with the Ivorian vauled at around £7m.
“We have to bring in two or three players to strengthen the squad, that’s for sure,” added Wenger, who is also set to lose second-choice keeper Lucasz Fabianski, who played at Wembley.
“Unfortunately everywhere we go there are many teams in the market, that’s for certain.” — Daily Star-Mailonline.
