I fear for my life, cheating man tells court

Mthuthuzeli Ncube from Zimbili Extension in Mzingwane, Matabeleland South Province is a man between a rock and a hard place.

Ncube fell in love with his neighbour’s wife Sengezile Sibanda sometime in 2020 while Sibanda’s husband was in South Africa where he is based.

Shortly after that Sibanda’s husband returned from South Africa and discovered the illicit affair.

He quizzed his wife about the affair and she allegedly admitted that she was in love with Ncube.

Testifying in court Ncube said Sibanda’s husband confronted him and accused him of being in love with his wife. Ncube claimed that he was living in fear because Sibanda’s husband issued death threats at him and threatened to gun him down.

He told the court that Sibanda’s husband claimed that he was told by a prophet that he was involved in an adulterous affair with his wife.

Ncube told the court that Sibanda’s husband even tried to run him over with his car causing people who were watching the terrifying incident to scream.

Ncube had to summon his athletic skills and ran for his dear life. Sibanda’s husband went after Ncube’s stall where he sells his goods and destroyed it. Sibanda’s husband did not stop at that because each and every time he comes to Zimbabwe he phones Ncube demanding an apology and issuing death threats at him. Ncube told the court that he reported the incident at Mbembesi Police Station.

In addition, Sibanda told the court she was in love with Ncube. She said their love affair came crashing down after her husband discovered the adulterous affair.

Sibanda said each time her husband confronts Ncube he returns home and torments her and was therefore seeking a protection order so that Ncube does not talk to her husband.

Her submissions raised questions from the presiding magistrate Shepherd Mnjanja. The magistrate asked whether Sibanda was troubled by Ncube and she said she was not.

After that, he asked Ncube whether she encountered any problems with Sibanda of which he said he had not encountered any problem with her. This prompted the magistrate to dismiss the application.
