PASTOR G has revealed he has shed 90 kgs in the four years he has been on his weight loss programme.
He was speaking at the official launch of the Nedbank Tour To The Great Dyke 2026 in Harare.
Cyclists are set to embark on a 328km Charity ride from Selous to Zvishavane.
The aim being to promote wellness, community development and to support the Gifted Children Foundation. Pastor G said at times he gains weight and sometimes he loses it but he has vowed to continue with his intensive fitness programme.
“I wake up early morning and walk 7 kms per week as well as reducing food intake. I will be walking, fasting and singing and my community nowadays do not get surprised to hear my voice. I thank my family for supporting me in this journey.”
He said, sometime in 2019, he used to weigh 210kgs. But, due to his passion for his health and life, he managed to shed 90kgs of his weight.
“This means I lost another chunk of a human being that was in me,” he said.
“I can safely say that now I am a survivor and I am living a healthy life. I’m confident that I will educate somebody there and save more lives.”
He showed this reporter some of his photos, when he used to weigh over 200kgs. “Some people thought that I was sick and they would stare at me with questionable eyes.
“I now smell a new lease of life and I believe education is power, hence I wrote a book.
On the 28th of November, I will be launching my book entitled ‘Today’s My Day,‘ and it is going to be an album book launch.
“I promise to change lives because it carries my real-life journey towards recovery.
“At times, I fast and walk and I dream that every Zimbabwean understands the dos and don’ts when it comes to health-seeking behaviour.”
Pastor G said he was obsessed with food and would eat whatever came on the table.
“The food that we eat is the one that kills us, especially us musicians, we often rely on fast foods wherever we go, and we will be killing ourselves slowly.
“The country is grappling with several cases of diabetes, high blood pressure, and most of these emanate from what we consume daily.”
Pastor G narrated how he used to take fast food from certain outlets and had a huge appetite for food.
Little did he know that he was creating problems for his health.
“I used to drive from my home in search of some of the best fast food outlets in the city and I would request big orders. I would boastfully say ‘food should kill me’ and I would eat it like hell. However, there is time for transition and to and change.
“I suddenly stopped after realising that I was fast losing my life to food. I caught Covid — 19 in 2021 and had difficulties breathing.
“That’s when I started changing my mindset over my eating habits and ‘silly’ behaviour.
“I’m not condemning them and I urge communities to go for traditional foods.”
After the death of his mother and father, during the Covid–19 period, he decided that he needed to be health-conscious.
