THE man whose wife allegedly eloped with a secret lover on their wedding night has declared undying love for her, saying their marriage would not end over a “trivial issue”.
The groom, Sisasenkosi Mpofu, reportedly left her Seventh Day Adventist Church elder husband, Mbongeni Moyo, soon after their wedding proceedings and left with her alleged boyfriend, Geshom Gwatiringa, a police officer.
It has since emerged that the two did not spend the night together, but the bride went back to her husband at home close to midnight on the same day.
In support of his wife, Elder Moyo has reportedly declared his undying love for his wife and has vowed his marriage would not end over such a ‘trivial issue’. He said he had already forgiven her and does not wish to part with her, according to sources close to the matter.
The bride allegedly disappeared with her secret lover who is stationed at Hillside Police Station after tying the knot, shortly before 7 pm on their wedding day. She allegedly returned home close to midnight.
She knocked on the window and said to her husband: “Vula umnyango sikhulumisane njengabantu abadala (open the door so that we talk as adults). Sisasenkosi told her husband that Gwatiringa gave her wine. She got drunk and does not know what happened next,” a source said.
Moyo opened the door and quizzed her about where she had gone but she did not give him a satisfactory response, prompting him to snatch her cell phone.

He went through messages and was shocked to learn that his wife was allegedly in love with Gwariringa and they spent time together on the wedding night.
Moyo then took his wife to his in-laws and narrated the incident to them. He teamed up with Allen Munhuru (26), Prosper Ndlovu (33) and Fungai Mpofu and went to Gwatiringa’s home at Emakhandeni.
They arrived at around 1 am and found him sleeping with his wife. They showed him the chats he had allegedly exchanged with Sisasenkosi, which made them believe that they had a sexual relationship.
The groom and his team allegedly asked him to accompany them to Entumbane Police Station but he pleaded with them not to do so, pleading to settle the matter without the involvement of the police and courts.
The group allegedly beat him up for having an affair with the married Sisasenkosi. However, Gwatiringa has since dragged Moyo and his in-laws to court, where they are facing attempted murder charges.
“We went to confront him with the view of taking him to the police station because we believed he had committed a criminal offence. But he resisted going to the police station and we pulled him into the car. We slapped him. We surrendered him to the police.”
They denied ever intending to kill him. Moyo and his in-laws were remanded out of custody to 11 November.
