Zoey has made these claims after the emergence of her bitter rival, Beverly Sibanda, who is better known as the Viceroy girl.
Saturday Leisure caught up with the Red Angels leader who had a lot to share with her fans.
In an interview, Zoey told Saturday Leisure that she never got into the industry by default.
“I started professional dancing way back in 2005 after having completed my Ordinary Levels,” she said.
Zoey said after high school she joined Rockford “Roki” Josphats as a dancer for one year.
“Dancing is something that is within me and soon after completing my Ordinary Levels, I decided to join Roki as one of his dancers,” she said.
Zoey said while with Roki, she gained experience and exposure to perform anywhere in the world.
“It was with Roki when I became a professional dancer,” she said.
Zoey said it was after getting the exposure that she decided to leave Roki going to South Africa in search of greener pastures.
“I have always dreamt big and that is the reason I decided to leave Roki going to South Africa in search of better paying jobs,” she said.
While she was there, she was roped into different dance groups that were into pole dancing.
“The groups that I came across while in South Africa were into pole dancing.
“As a way of broadening my dancing knowledge, I decided to join these groups,” she said.
Zoey said she stayed in South Africa for two years and she decided to come back home and form her own dance group around 2008 called Red Angels.
“In South Africa, pole dancing is one of the most popular dances and it is enjoyed by almost everyone who is into night life,” she said.
The dancer said after forming her group, she began training the eight girls that she had found and one of them was Bev.
“The training took us less than a month and soon after we started having live shows in Harare and other cities,” she said.
Zoey said before they started having live shows, she applied for a licence to stage pole dancing in Zimbabwe.
“I can tell you that I was the first person to be given a licence for pole dancing in Zimbabwe. The licence that I have does not allow any stripping in public and we are following that as a group,” she said.
Zoey said since the introduction of this dance in 2008 they were always fully booked.
“Sometimes we end up turning down some shows as we do not have time to rest,” she said.
Zoey said her group does not do pole dancing only as they dance to sungura, rhumba, and also do chair and table dance.
Zoey said dismissing Beverly from her group was not something personal as she had a serious attitude towards the fans. “Bev was dismissed from my group sometime last year after our Bulawayo show.
“The main problem was that she was giving fans attitude and that affected the group. At some point we were struggling to get shows because of her,” she said.
Zoey said Red Angels was there to stay and would be coming to Bulawayo and other cities for shows.
Beverly, however, dismissed assertions by Zoey that she trained her to be where she is today.
“I was never trained by Zoey and all those claims are not true. Instead, I am better than her on stage,” she said.
