NINETEEN-YEAR-OLD female rapper, Shamiso ‘Khendy’ Rukato, says she believes she will be bigger than established female rappers like Kikky Bad***e and Young Gemini.
Khendy feels her journey has just started and there will be no stopping the train once it gathers momentum.
She told H-Metro:
“I want to produce music which is of international standards. I am defying the odds as I am challenging rappers like Kikky and Young Gemini.
“I can surpass them even though my parents did not want their children to pursue the arts.
“I am happy that my family now supports me and the arts will always win. I feel music is where my life belongs instead of education.
“Music is inside me and it’s my passion.
“My vision is to show my fellow Zimbabweans in the industry that music doesn’t have to be purely about the local languages.
“When I used English on some of my songs I got some negative comments that I should sing in my language.”
Khendy added:
“I have addressed issues of single mothers, spread anti-drugs messages and how the music industry has been infiltrated by drugs.
“I just don’t just sing but I am a rapper.
“I sang under a certain musical label for seven months last year.
“We didn’t get along with the label and we parted ways.
“All my music was deleted from social media.
“I am starting afresh.
“My journey started after I completed my Form 6 in 2023 and, in May 2024, I dropped my album, ‘Times Up.’
She will be releasing an EP as part of her rebranding exercise.
“I am set to release my EP at the end of April.
“I am encouraging female rapists to up their game and be more consistent.”
She has released some projects like ‘Newe Kudenga’ and a video of ‘Times Up’.
