a?I would rather die than lose you!a

HOW deep is your love for me?

It may sound like the title of a 1998 Dru Hill song but a Bulawayo man put his estranged wife to test by attempting to take his life when she turned down his reconciliation proposal.

Jairos Dube whose marriage to Edna Mukwisho (ABOVE) broke down in 2012, decided to iron out issues with the a?woman of his dreamsa?.

However, Mukwisho said she was better off without him.

A flat NO infuriated Dube, who then decided there was nothing else to live for.

He drank poison at Mukwishoas house in Mpopoma a but because he didnat want anyone to be arrested in the event that he died, Dube ran to the Western Commonage Police Station with the same poison bottle he drank from and told cops that he was about to die.

a?He came here topless and running. He told us he wanted to die because his ex-wife did not want him back,a? said a police source.

Mukwisho followed her ex-husband to the police station where she found him vomiting.

a?She had no choice but to call an ambulance,a? added the source.

By time of going to press, Dube was at Mpilo Central Hospital. His condition was critical and he could barely speak without feeling pain.

a?I tried to convince her but she refused to take me back,a? he said from his hospital bed.

His former mother-in-law who was there when he took the poison said Dube premeditated the incident, so he knew what he was going to do had he been rejected.

a?He came withA an insecticide hidden in his trousers pockets. When she said no, he simply took it out and drank,a? said Mbuya Mukwisho.

Edna refused to talk to the press.
