adminPermanent Secretary for ICT Engineer Sam Kundishora said the awards were aimed at acknowledging the efforts of individuals and organisations that have contributed to the country’s development through ICTs.
“ICTs are a powerful force of socio-economic change in developing countries, as a result of efforts of individuals and organisations who have excelled, been innovative and have contributed meaningfully to the development of the nation through ICT need to be acknowledged.
“The Zimbabwe Information Communication Technology Achievers Awards (Zictaas) are the ministry’s way of appreciating the efforts of those operating in the ICT industry and will hopefully mark the beginning of a renewed thrust for excellence, indigenisation and use of ICTs to improve people’s lives and business operations,” he said.
The proposed categories include:
- ICT project of the year (private sector),
- ICT project of the year (public sector),
- NGO promoter of ICT,
- ICT businessman of the year,
- ICT businesswoman of the year,
- ICT company of the year, web-developer of the year (individual or company) and
- Public sector website of the year.
Other categories also include the ICT journalist of the year, young ICT innovator of the year, ICT educator of the year (individual or company), top ICT company on corporate and social responsibility, ICT rural school of the year, ICT personality of the year and top ICT user minister.
While last year’s awards had only seven categories, they have now been increased to 15 this year.
Last year, the ICT Company of the Year award was scooped by Econet Wireless Zimbabwe, which also meant that the ICT Businessman of the Year award went to Econet chief executive Mr Douglas Mboweni. The ICT Businesswoman of the Year was Ms Rudo Mudavanhu.
