Isolated thunderstorms were experienced in Kariba, Motoko and Nyanga on Sunday as the southern fringes of the Intertropical Convergence Zone are still influencing the weather over the northern areas of the country, the Meteorological Services Department has said.
The Met department said isolated afternoon showers remain today probable in all Mashonaland provinces and Harare Metropolitan Province where some briefly cloudy and warm conditions should prevail.
“The rest of the country should be mostly sunny and warm during the day but mild in the morning,” said the department.
Members of the public have been advised that lightning may still strike from a distant cloud, even when the sky overhead is clear.
“Thunder and Lightning may affect your plans, please plan with the weather in mind. High temperatures may lead to dehydration
“When thunder roars, it is best to be indoors. If outdoors please find shelter immediately; do not shelter under trees or in an isolated shed,” urged the department.
Members of the public have also been advised to keep hydrated, especially during the daytime by drinking adequate amounts of water.
“Do not cross flooded rivers and swollen streams whether on foot or in a vehicle as just 30cm of flowing water is enough to sweep away a vehicle,” said the department.
Tomorrow, the Met department advised that the weather should be cloudy and warm in all Matabeleland provinces and Bulawayo Metropolitan province.
It is expected to be mild both in the morning and evening. Sunny and hot conditions are expected in the remainder of the country (Midlands, all Mashonaland Provinces, Harare Metropolitan Province, Manicaland and Masvingo), though mild in the morning.
The 2021/22 rainfall season is expected to end in March.
A number of farmers who had a late crop are worried by the situation of their crops which have started giving in to the hot weather conditions.
In most parts of the country most crops are at the vegetative stage that require moisture.
