The Infrastructural Development Bank of Zimbabwe (IDBZ) has pledged its support to help grow Zimbabwe’s Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions (MICE) sector.
Speaking during the ongoing Sanganai-Hlanganani World Tourism Expo MICE Masterclass at the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair (ZITF) Grounds this Wednesday, IDBZ Independent Evaluation Department Director, Engineer Irene Kamutero-Goto announced her organisation’s commitment to partnering with local stakeholders to develop the country’s MICE industry. This move is expected to boost tourism, create jobs, and stimulate economic growth.
The MICE Masterclass was headlined guest of honour and Deputy Tourism Minister, Honourable Tongai Mnangagwa and was well attended by industry players and local media.
“Zimbabwe has immense potential for MICE tourism, with its unique blend of natural beauty, rich culture, and modern infrastructure. As the IDBZ, we are keen to work with the tourism sector to develop infrastructure that will aid the growth and development of not just the MICE tourism sector but the tourism industry as a whole,” said Engineer Kamutero-Goto.
“We are excited to collaborate with local partners to tap into this potential and make Zimbabwe a premier MICE destination in Africa.”
IDBZ plans to provide expertise, resources, and networking opportunities to help develop Zimbabwe’s MICE sector. This includes infrastructural development, supporting local event organisers and promoting Zimbabwe as a MICE destination globally.
The move has been welcomed by local stakeholders who also included Mashonaland West Minister of State for Provincial Affairs, Honourable Miriam Chombo, who see IDBZ’s involvement as a significant boost to the industry. During a plenary session at the Masterclass, Minister Chombo challenged IBDZ to invest in infrastructural development in the provinces.
“Partnerships with corporations like IDBZ will help us tap into new markets, improve our infrastructure, and enhance our overall MICE offering,” said Hon. Chombo.
Zimbabwe’s MICE sector has shown promise in recent years, with several high-profile events hosted in the country. However, challenges such as infrastructure limitations and lack of international marketing have hindered its growth.
IDBZ’s commitment is seen as a major step towards addressing these challenges and unlocking Zimbabwe’s full MICE tourism potential. With the corporation’s support, Zimbabwe is poised to become a leading MICE destination in Africa, attracting more international events and conferences.
