of 31 used condoms in their vehicle, will be taken to Harare today for an identification parade.
They were still detained at Gweru Central Police Station by late yesterday. The trio, who are suspected to be part of a syndicate that has been kidnapping and sexually abusing men in search of semen reportedly meant for ritual purposes, were arrested along the Gweru-Lower Gweru Road.
Their vehicle, a Chevrolet Aveo was involved in an accident while being driven by one of the women’s boyfriend. Police recovered 31 used condoms at the accident scene and three were half full with semen.
Officer Commanding Police in Midlands Province, Senior Assistant Commissioner Charles Makono, said the women were still assisting police with investigations.
“The three female suspects are still in police custody. We have since applied for warrant of further detention and an identification parade will be held tomorrow (today) in Harare.

“We chose Harare since it is central and it enables complainants to be brought from different parts of the country. It could have been a syndicate and this can be the starting point in the investigations.
“In Gweru we had four complainants of which we managed to locate two. The other complainant is said to be in South Africa while we cannot locate the fourth one. We appeal to members of the public that if they have been victims of such cases, they should not be shy to come forward to a nearest police station. This case is of national interest and their assistance will be greatly appreciated,” Senior Asst Comm Makono said.
Snr Asst Com Makono said the third suspect’s boyfriend borrowed the car from the other two who are sisters. He was involved in an accident while on his way to Lower Gweru, which claimed one life.
“In an attempt to conceal the evidence, the trio got into a Toyota Chaser and proceeded to the scene where police officers had already collected the condoms and were arrested on arrival after failing to give a satisfactory explanation,” he said.
He said police have since recovered the accident damaged Chevrolet Aveo and the Toyota Chaser while the trio are expected to appear in court soon.
Many people yesterday milled around Gweru Central Police Station in anticipation to catch a glimpse of the women.
