Idols SA’s Amanda puts on brave face

After much of a rollercoaster which included being eliminated from the top 16 and coming back after one idols hopeful bowed out, the ‘comeback kid’ Amanda Antony has waved her final Idols South Africa goodbye. The 22-year-old could not garner enough of the 6,4 million votes cast between Sunday and Tuesday evening to secure a spot in the top 6. “I’m sad, I’m disappointed, having come back into the competition the way I did, I told myself I’m gonna work, and I did. I gave it my all and I was like ‘I wanna go all the way’ but unfortunately it’s just the way it is,” she said.

“I feel very blessed, I’ve learnt so much in this competition, I’ve made friends, met a lot of influential people in the industry and I think everything that I’ve experienced is gonna work.”

Antony was sent packing during the top 16 selection but came back after Nonhle Mhlongo pulled out of the competition as she had signed a recording deal and could not negotiate a ‘temporary release for Idols’. The Port Elizabeth songwriter believes she was destined for greatness in the music industry and wants to own a recording studio.

“There’s nothing that I could’ve done differently on the show. I regret nothing because now South Africa knows Amanda,” Antony said. Those who made top six are Dineo Moseki, Karabo Mogane, Loyiso Gijana, Mmatema Moremi, Rhema Varrie and Siphelele Ngcobo who was born in 1991 and chose All 4 One hit I Can Love You Like That and Nathi’s Nomvula. – Sowetan.
