IFK preps at advanced stage

Zimbabwe is expected to send six fighters to the championships — Tawanda Mufundisi, Nicholas Muchatisi, Innocent Karimangwana and Tongera Misi from IFK style.
Samson Muripo and Kelly Mtisi from kyokushin are expected to be part of the team.
National full contact styles technical director, Tendayi Mutikani, is in charge of the team with the help of Sensei Kumbirai Musinami from kyokushin.
Mufundisi, who is the Zimbabwe branch chief for IFK, said preparations were progressing well.
“Our preparations have been going on well and everything is in order in terms of training.
“We are all in shape. For the time being we are working on the cardio and polishing our skills.
“I think everything related to training is covered,” said Mufundisi.
Mufundisi said they have engaged fighters from other styles so that it becomes a national event instead of focusing on a single style.
“We want to make it more of a national event not a style and that’s why we have guys from kyokushin.
“We usually have a national squad training session once a week at Raylton Sports Club and we also train regularly in Kambuzuma as a style.
“We are geared up and we hope everything will work out in our favour because we need between US$18 000 to US$20 000.
“So far we have US$4 800 and we are still running around to get the rest of the money,” said Mufundisi.
However, Muripo remains doubtful for the trip as he is focusing on the World Karate tournament to be held in Japan.
If he competes in the British Open championships it will make life difficult for him when he competes in Japan.
