Zimbabweans living in the diaspora have come together and released an Amapiano track titled Sisonke which calls for unity among the country’s citizens in order to succeed on the trajectory set by the government.
The main message is based on President Mnangagwa’s philosophy: “Ilizwe lakhiwa ngabaninilo/Nyika inovakwa nevene vayo”.
The single’s co-composer, Kirth Dube who works in the health sector in the UK joined hands with Avis Ndlovu, a Swati national based in South Africa but married to a Zimbabwean and Sisasenkosi Mnkandla, a Zimbabwean cultural ambassador for the Zim Achievers Awards UK.
The track which was released last month was produced by South Africa-based Mthabisi Moyo.
Kirth Dube said they composed the song after being inspired by the patriotism they saw during Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral in the United Kingdom and the vision that is being displayed by President Mnangagwa in encouraging Zimbabweans to unite and work together.
“I’m part of Team Nkalakatha Foundation (TTF) which has the vision to encourage people to partner with our government and improve health and social care. The mantra ‘Ilizwe lakhiwa ngabaninilo’ influenced me because like the biblical dry bones story, Zimbabwe will regain its flesh and become a great place if all citizens come together as a family and work to rebuild their own home,” he said.
“The inspiration is the ‘Unity’ that the late VP Dr Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo used to preach which our president ED is fulfilling in the new dispensation. We’re all children of the soil and function better as one people. As Zimbabweans, we must never allow divisions of colour, tribe and language to separate us.
“Together, we can build our country hence this song sends out a message to families, neighbourhoods, towns, cities, citizens, and diasporans that if we’re united and work together on a common agenda, we can achieve much.”
Dube said he is planning to record more tracks that will be sung in various national languages so as to promote unity.
He said Sisonke is available on various online stores adding that they are planning to record visuals for the single. For the recording of the single, Dube said they mainly used technology as most communication was virtual with Sisa flying to South Africa to record with Avis.
Dube is not new to the music industry as he was at the forefront of the formation of the Starbrite Zimbabwe talent show. – @themkhust
