‘I’ll lead Bosso to greatness’

ASPIRING Highlanders chairman Nodumo Nyathi has preached the gospel of unity while also assuring the electorate that he is certainly going to run for the Bosso chairmanship.

The elections are set for February.

As things stand, Nyathi will contest for the Bosso top job against the current chairman Johnfat Sibanda, who is however, yet to announce if he will seek re-election.

Former chairman Kenneth Mhlophe, who has publicly declared his interest in the post and Qhubani Moyo are the names linked with the post as of now.

In a post on his Facebook page, Nyathi declared to do the seemingly impossible and get to run Bosso.

“Nothing is Impossible! born emkulwini in Diana’s pools, walked 10km to and from school for a good 7 years, walked 5km to our neighbour (koWuyane ko Nkala) who had a People’s Radio to listen to Bosso matches, I have a dream!

“I will lead Bosso to greatness. But that should never come with a divided house. I saw the effects of a divided Bosso from last elections and the attacks I have received since I put myself for chairmanship have been unprecedented.

“Bosso must not Die! Bosso must and will Rise! Even if it’s a dream delayed I will have it delayed for the sake of Bosso,” wrote Nyathi.

In the past few years, Nyathi was instrumental in assisting Bosso wipe out their legacy debt.

He was at the forefront of the campaign to pay off Bosso’s historical debt which saw the club free of arrears in August 2020 after years of being pulled back by debts.

Nyathi used social media platforms such as Facebook and X (formerly Twitter) to garner support for the campaign.

The initiative was supported by a huge number of Highlanders members and supporters based in Zimbabwe as well as beyond the country’s borders.

The legacy debt was $862 868.

In 2021, Nyathi was one of the many brains behind the Siyabonga Gumz (Ndumiso Gumede) fundraising initiative.

The initiative was meant to honour the late ex Highlanders president, chairman and chief executive officer Ndumiso Gumede for the then his 40 years of dedicated service to the Bulawayo giants.

It culminated to celebrations that were held at Highlanders Clubhouse.
