Illegal miners sentenced to two years for mining along highway

FOUR Gokwe illegal miners were sentenced to two years in prison each for mining along a busy highway in Chegutu.

In a statement, the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ) said Jealous Mpofu (47) Kudakwashe Mubaiwa (21) Tobias Mpofu (50) and Ephraim Matsvaira (51) were caught in Chegutu and charged for contravening the Mines and Minerals Act.

“Police recovered shovels, mattock, generator and pam-pam that were used to commit the crime,” reads the statement.
