ILLEGAL PILLS ON WHEELS, Trucker busted smuggling medicines

B-Metro Reporter

A TRUCK driver was arrested after police in Chirundu intercepted him with a stash of smuggled pharmaceutical drugs hidden in his vehicle.

The dramatic bust happened on 20 August 2025 at the 348km peg along the Harare–Chirundu Road when officers swooped on the truck and arrested the driver, Solo Chikuvanyanga (52).

Police said the vehicle was loaded with a cocktail of pharmaceutical products that were being smuggled, including paracetamol, phonoxy, mistrovix, promethazine, cotrimoxole, amoxicillin, chlorphenamine and mistrovix tablets among others.

The arrest has shone a spotlight on the murky underworld of drug smuggling where essential medicines are sneaked across borders and peddled on the black market at the expense of public health.

The truck and its illicit cargo have since been impounded while Chikuvanyanga awaits his day in court.
