Illegal teen gold miner dies in mine shaft collapse

 AN Illegal gold miner who was among a gang of 12 that invaded a mining claim in Bulawayo died, when a shaft collapsed and trapped four of the intruders.

In a statement, Bulawayo provincial police spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube said the gang invaded a mine at Larry Avenue in Kensington at 10pm on Tuesday.

He said the four were mining inside the shaft while the others were outside sleeping.

 The shaft collapsed at 4am on Wednesday.

Vusumuzi Chidziwa (18) died while the other three survived when they were pulled out of the mine.

 “Chidziwa’s body was taken for post mortem at the United Bulawayo Hospitals” said Insp Abednico Ncube.

 He said members of the public should desist from illegal gold mining as some soils are not stable for mining and may pose danger to their lives.
