VILLAGERS in Insuza, Matabeleland North, were left gobsmacked and the courtroom in stitches when a young man shamelessly confessed that he put on a condom before bedding a goat that was on heat.
Brian Sibanda, from Dundubala area, appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Abednico Ndebele this week facing charges of bestiality under Section 74 of the Criminal Law Codification and Reform Act.
The court heard that Sibanda had gone into the bush in search of a missing cow when he stumbled upon a goat that was in heat. Instead of herding it away, the young man reportedly felt “attracted” to the animal.
Unable to resist, he rushed home, fetched a condom, and returned to the bush. Without shame, he strapped it on and mounted the poor goat.
His lusty escapade, however, was short-lived. The goat’s owner stumbled upon the strange scene and caught Sibanda in the act.
“He tried to run with the condom still on,” a witness said, leaving the gallery roaring with laughter.
The goat’s furious owner gave chase, outran the shameless herdboy, and dragged him to the nearest police station. That sealed Sibanda’s fate.
In mitigation, Sibanda maintained he was under the spell of “strong feelings” he could not control. .
Sibanda pleaded guilty, admitted his bizarre act, and begged for mercy. “I am really sorry for what I did. Please forgive me. I will never do it again,” he mumbled, head bowed.
The magistrate, taking into account that Sibanda is a first offender who did not waste the court’s time and showed remorse, sentenced him to four months imprisonment, wholly suspended on condition he does not repeat the act within the next five years.
For now, the goat-lover walks free — but under the shadow of a suspended sentence. Should he be caught with another animal, the young man will find himself behind bars, with no condom strong enough to save him.
