SOUTH African heartthrob and award-winning actor Abdul Khoza, is riding high after being retained for Season Two of Mzansi Magic’s blockbuster epic, Shaka iLembe.
The show, which took Africa by storm in its debut season, is gearing up for a powerful comeback — and Khoza, who plays the fearless warrior Ciji, is thrilled to be part of the journey.
Speaking exclusively on the sidelines of the Chief Dakamela Achievers Awards held in Nkayi, Matabeleland North, Zimbabwe, Khoza gave fans a sneak peek into what to expect when the second season premières on 15 June at 8PM.

“It’s an honour to have been retained on the production of Shaka iLembe Season Two. There is no actor who doesn’t want to be associated with such a massive production and it’s a blessing that this idea came to life during my lifetime — at the apex of my career,” said Khoza.
After scooping 12 South African Film and Television Awards (Saftas) in its maiden season, Shaka iLembe is back to claim its throne, this time focusing on Shaka’s rise to power.
“We are already done shooting and the final product will be screened from 15 June. There are new characters and territories, meaning we will take viewers from the majestic mountains of the Swazi kingdom to the rolling hills of the Xhosa. This is a great story that depicts what really happened during those ancient times,” Khoza revealed.

Returning cast members joining Khoza include Nomzamo Mbatha (Nandi), Wiseman Mncube (Zwide), Dawn Thandeka King (Mkabayi), Khabonina Qubeka (Ntombazi), and Mondli Makhoba (Ngomane) — a dream team of Mzansi talent bringing the drama to life.
Season Two is set to unpack ethnic rivalries, personal betrayals and political power plays, all woven into a rich historical tapestry that expands beyond the Zulu kingdom.

New faces joining the cast include Zamani Mbatha as Nomahlanjana, the power-hungry son of Zwide, Amanda Seome as Ntombazana, Zwide’s cunning daughter and Anele Nele as Sikhunyana, another of Zwide’s sons. Also joining the saga are Sikhanyiso Sithole as Princess Hletjiwe, a radiant Ngwane royal and Luyanda Zuma as Liyana, a bold maiden in the Queen Mother’s court.
Executive producer, Desiree Markgraaff, promised even more cinematic firepower and emotional depth in the upcoming season.
“The new cast members bring fresh energy, exploring the complexities of power, love and loyalty in a turbulent era. South Africa is rich with characters and we’re just beginning to uncover them.
With a compelling narrative and cinematic excellence, Shaka iLembe is more than just a series—it’s a cultural phenomenon,” said Markgraaff.
Brace yourselves — the legend of Shaka is far from over!
