Imbiber killed for sipping beer without permission

A KEZI man has been arrested for allegedly fatally stabbing a man who took a sip of his beer without permission.

Matabeleland South provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Loveness Mangena confirmed the incident which occurred on September 8 at Esiqongweni Bar, Legion Mine in Sun Yet Sen. She said Forget Ncube (24) of Sihayi Village in Kezi stabbed Evidence Maphosa (28).

“I can confirm that we recorded a murder case which occurred at Esiqongweni Bar. The accused person Forget Ncube and the now deceased Evidence Maphosa were drinking beer at the bar. A misunderstanding arose when Ncube accused Maphosa of drinking his beer. Ncube started assaulting Maphosa who left the bar to avoid any further confrontation.

“Ncube followed Maphosa and stabbed him on the left side of his chest with a knife before fleeing the scene. Maphosa was rushed to Esigodini District Hospital where he was pronounced dead upon arrival. Police conducted investigations leading to Ncube’s arrest,” she said.

Insp Mangena said the police are worried over murder cases which continue to occur over petty issues. She urged people to respect the sanctity of life.
