THE inaugural Zimbabwe Ladies Chess Association (ZLCA) national workshop will begin at Royal Harare Golf Club this morning.
The event will see several chess enthusiasts taking part in a one-off seminar that will leave the participants with certificates upon completion of the programme.
Chess experts are expected to educate the participants on tricks and tactics, international trends, playing, coaching as well as arbitrating the game of chess.
ZLCA only registered with the Sports Commission this year and they are now focusing on taking the sport from the grassroots.
The event is a build-up towards Zimbabwe Chess Open Tournament to be held in December.
Bridget Pumuyo, the ZLCA president, said they are looking forward to a successful workshop.
“Our aim is to spread the sport from grassroots levels and attract as many players as we can especially the girl child.
“By starting from the grassroots we will have a strong team that can represent the country ,which is something which we lacked in the past,” said Pu- muyo.
