Trade between Zimbabwe and China has doubled to $800 million in the last two years as ties between the two countries continue to grow.
Zimbabwe has established strong economic and bilateral ties with China. China is pursuing a number of business ventures in the country in various sectors of the economy.
In a statement, the Africa Economic Development Strategies (AEDS) said the trade fair would aim to find strategies to enhance trading opportunities between Zimbabwean companies and their Chinese counterparts.
“So far Zimbabwean companies have been facing difficulties in trading with China because of the size of the Chinese economy and the complexity of the industrial structure,” reads part of the statement. To this end, AEDS, in collaboration with the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, CZI, ZNCC and the Chinese embassy are hosting the first ever Zimbabwe-China Trade Fair which seeks to, inter alia, create business linkages between the companies of the two countries.”
Government announced last month that it was engaging the BRICS group of countries to hold trade fairs to enhance business opportunities with the grouping.
The BRICS — Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa — has changed the dynamics of global markets resulting in alternative investment sources for developing countries.
Analysts contend that Zimbabwe could gain economically by creating business synergies with the group, which has navigated its economic development rapidly and successfully. — New Ziana
