Miss World Zimbabwe 2024 Nokutenda Shekinah Marumbwa has called on the Government to include modelling in the school curriculum.
The Chegutu-based model said there were several benefits attached to modelling, adding that both girls and boys could get an appreciation of the ramp earlier in life.
In an interview, the 20-year-old noted that its inclusion in the curriculum would generate interest and open up more opportunities for school leavers to take up modelling as a career.
“In Zimbabwe, pageantry is often perceived in a negative way.
“I would strongly advocate for the inclusion of modelling in the curriculum, particularly to support young girls.”
“Empowering girls through modelling and pageantry education not only fosters creativity, but also cultivates a generation of confident and equipped young women ready to contribute meaningfully to society.”
Turning to her project on humanitarian work, Marumbwa said she was advocating for food security and hunger eradication in communities through a number of home-grown solutions.
Marumbwa added that community inclusion was important in such projects so that beneficiaries can take ownership over the initiatives and in the process proffer solutions on how they can eradicate hunger.
“In Zimbabwe and Africa, my goal is to ensure that significant strides have been made towards food security and hunger eradication,” she said.
“This can be achieved through increased investment in agriculture, irrigation schemes, and sustainable farming practices.”
“We can empower local communities and ensure that there is access to nutritious food for all.
Marumbwa, who took part in the Miss World finals held in India, finished in the top 40, an experience which she described as “humbling”
The model emerged as one of the five finalists at the Miss World, Head to Head Challenge, showcasing brilliancy, when she passionately spoke about her project and its immense benefits once it is holistically implemented.
