adminCde Machaya, who is also the Midlands Governor, made the remarks in his election clarion call on Tuesday in Chirumanzu District under the vast Zibagwe-Chirumanzu constituency.
He told hundreds of villagers gathered at Tokwe 4 Clinic that elections were definitely going to be held this year as a way of ending “the unworkable marriage running the country’s affairs”.
“We are certainly holding elections this year, there is no going back on that. As a province we are very much prepared because this is a Zanu-PF territory. The inclusive
Government has failed to click, it’s like oxen from different kraals yoked together. They won’t pull,” said Cde Machaya.
“President Mugabe has been calling for the holding of elections this year, but the MDC is afraid and are always coming up with excuses. They claim that we need to change the constitution, we need time and we need this and that, but common sense tells one that you can effect most changes when you win an election. Unogoda kutonga sei usati wahwina? (You can only be in charge after winning elections). The MDCs are afraid of the growing popularity of President Mugabe that has even been acknowledged by a British publication, a newspaper from a country that hates His Excellency’s guts.”
He said President Mugabe’s popularity was growing on a daily basis because of his sound policies that were pro-poor, which also upheld African values.
“The President abhors homosexuality and he always speaks strongly against this sickening practice. He is a God-fearing man and he knows that even the Bible condemns homosexuality, hence his stance. In the past MDC used to cheat in elections by misrepresenting itself but now people are aware of who they really are. They know who MDC represents. It is a party that has a leadership that lies. Remember when (Mr Morgan) Tsvangirai came into office; he promised civil servants lots of
money in salary increase,” said Cde Machaya.
“He has not given them anything till today. In fact, it was President Mugabe who ended up awarding civil servants the increase they wanted. The Prime Minister does not even want to see civil servants today. Is this the kind of leader you want?”
He said elections were needed to rid the Government of the negative forces within its structures as represented by the MDCs that were derailing development in the country.
He said the Government needed a leadership with a common vision that worked towards a common goal of defending the country’s sovereignty.
“MDC got key ministries like Finance, Public Service, Health and Child Welfare, Industry and Commerce, National Housing, Constitutional and Parliamentary Affairs as well as that of Water Resources, among others. None of these have met their objectives. We have challenges in housing, water sanitation and civil servants are poorly remunerated.
“All Zanu-PF run ministries are meeting their objectives. Agriculture gave people inputs and that of lands allocated farms to landless Zimbabweans. Indigenisation and Empowerment is empowering communities through the community ownership share schemes and giving 51 percent controlling shares to indigenous people. It is working closely with the Ministry of Mines and Mining Development. We have given share certificates to communities in Shurugwi, Zvishavane and very soon I will be in Gokwe’s Sengwa area to give the community their 10 percent share profit from their resources,” he said.
Cde Machaya urged the people of Tokwe resettlement area to co-exist with those who came as illegal settlers.
He said the Government was committed to feeding everyone, including illegal settlers.
“We are one united family in Zanu-PF and we should show this when elections come. Let us vote peacefully for our President, Cde Mugabe and the party’s other candidates,” said Cde Machaya
