PRESIDENT Mnangagwa has said the choice of Maphisa in Matabeleland South Province, as the venue for the 46th Independence Day celebrations, reflects the Government’s commitment to inclusivity and national unity, and allows all regions to meaningfully enjoy the fruits of hard-won independence and development.
Addressing the 130th session of the Central Committee yesterday, President Mnangagwa said all provinces will be given an opportunity to host Independence Day celebrations.
Last year, the main Independence Day commemorations were held at the Nembudziya open grounds in Gokwe North District, Midlands Province.
“As we look ahead and focus on the commemorations of our 46th Independence anniversary, this year’s national celebrations will be held in Maphisa, Matabeleland South Province,” said President Mnangagwa.
The celebrations will be held under the theme, “Zimbabwe at 46, Unity in Action and Development in Motion, Towards Vision 2030.”
He said the choice of venue is in line with the bold decision by the Second Republic to decentralise key national events.
“This reflects our commitment to inclusivity and national unity, while giving all regions an opportunity to meaningfully enjoy the fruits of our hard-won freedom, independence and development,” he said.
Accordingly, President Mnangagwa announced that numerous independence legacy projects are underway, not only in Maphisa or Matobo District, but across Matabeleland South Province.
He highlighted the construction of the Joshua Mqabuko Nyongolo Nkomo Vocational Training Centre, which will positively impact youth empowerment and skills development in the region.
Other projects include the construction of an additional block at the J M N Nkomo Polytechnic College in Gwanda.
“The upgrade of infrastructure and equipping of science laboratories in schools throughout the province, as well as facelifts to historic schools such as Manama High, Minda Mission and Thekwane, among others, are progressing well.
“Kezi Rural Hospital is also being modernised. Road rehabilitation is underway across all districts. Zanu-PF is leaving no one and no place behind,” said President Mnangagwa.
He implored all party structures in all provinces to mobilise people to celebrate the important national day.
“This should not only be in honour of the sacrifices that brought us independence, but also, as a demonstration of the confidence and optimism we all have for a more prosperous future, for our beloved motherland, Zimbabwe,” he stated.
Preparations for the Independence celebrations are going well.
